Sustainability
Bounce Rubber Bands is proud to take steps towards sustainability within our business dealings. Over several years, we have established key sustainability goals in different areas of our business operations.
Sustainable Production
Rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis) reach maturity at 6 years of age and have 24-25 years of productive life. The sap used for rubber bands is harvested sustainably using a process called “tapping”, which causes no harm to the trees. At the end of its productive life, the tree is used for furniture and other timber products, and new trees are planted.
Manufacturers
Bounce Rubber Bands make regular visits to Thailand to ensure that our suppliers are following basic working and environmental standards. We work closely with suppliers to ensure we are providing an ethical product to our consumers.
Natural Product
Synthetic rubber is a man-made product that uses crude oil in factories to form a polymer. Synthetic rubber can contain toxins that can cause environmental damage if they leach into the soil, and can contribute to the climate crisis through their manufacturing processes. Natural rubber is formed through a natural biosynthesis of plant polymer found in the Hevea brasiliensis tree. Bounce Rubber Bands’ natural properties make for an eco-friendly rubber band choice.
Sustainability Awards
In 2018, Bounce Rubber Bands were recognised for our sustainability efforts and awarded Excellence in Sustainability at the 2018 Regional Business Excellence Awards (Australia.
Social Responsibility
Our ‘Bounce Back’ program is a social responsibility initiative to give back to the two countries that have helped Bounce Rubber Bands grow and exceed, Australia and Thailand. Each financial year we donate a percentage per bag sold to charities of our choice.
Some of the charities we have donated to include:
